Mount Royal Calgary Yard Going Forward

Update/June 29, 2017

Spring is here in 3 days
 and this yard in Southwest Calgary is ready to take on a new look.

March 2017

Two crabapple trees taken out of the middle of the yard
open up the yard and supply the home with firewood for next winter.

Charlie guards the gate.

This year the garden was planted late due to weather and Grandmaman was in Salem in May.

Asparagus

Bought 4 asparagus plants on May 3, 2016

  and planted in a vegetable garden with a west exposure

 in Norglenwold at Sylvan Lake on May 4, 2016.  

They are"Mary Washington" asparagus.  

Height 36 to 48 inches.  

Spread 8 to 12 inches.  

Blooming and Harvest Time-May-June.

Amur Maple

This small tree is planted in the front yard with a west exposure.  Stunning leaves in the fall and easy to maintain.  I believe it to be an Amur Maple tree and more info can be found by clicking on Amur Maple.

Flowering Almond or Double Flowering Plum

This Flowering Bush grows on the west side of the house beside the front deck here in Norglenwold, Alberta.  Yesterday we spent several hours cleaning out underneath it and pruning back deadwood and unwanted branches.  More research is needed to see if it is a flowering almond or a double flowering plum.

Potatoes

We planted 12 hills of a mixture of red and white potatoes in the front flower bed at the front of the house with a west exposure.  Take note of the date-April 19, 2016.  

When out for a walk after supper, May 2, 2016 and noted that the potatoes are up. Less than 2 weeks from when we planted them.  Temperature today was up to 24 degrees here in Sylvan Lake.

This iris was  planted in Norglenwold at Sylvan Lake in April 2016 in the flower bed at the front of the house with a west exposure. Our neighbor Pat kindly gave us this when she split her plant.  Un grand merci.
