| From Gable House Farm to the Lakehouse Lily Garden August 16, 2026 The Gryphon John Galt daylily is a registered cultivar renowned for its massive, up to nine inch, flower size and striking unusual flower form. Registered in 2017 by bybridizer Gil Stelter, it is highly sought after by gardeners who collect extra-large or late-blooming daylily varieties. This lily is pale yellow with prominent whitish edges, strong white midribs running through the petals, and a contrasting green throat. The stems can reach a tall 40 inch height. Classified as an unusual form daylily, which means its long petals display distinct twisting, curling, or cascading movements. *John Galt is the central fictional hero of Ayn Rand's 1957 novel Atlas Shrugged. Named after the hybridizers' oldest granddaughter, it holds historical distinction as Dave Hansen's very first daylily registration. Bloom is 5.5 inches across and the flower stalks average 28 inches. It features a distinct flesh gold base color layered with a prominent rosy mauve halo This transitions beautifully into a large yellow to deep green throat. |

"The plant itself is rough but I think it's because it's "established" with "decent roots" so we will see. My other roses did not make it. Already very pokey. Has stabbed both of us twice and it's not even in the ground."

Lightly scented Hybrid Tea Rose with large, full, high-centered, pure red flowers, 5 inches across, packed with 32 to 37 petals.
A light fruity fragrance.
Blooming in flushes from spring to early fall.
Vigorous, heat tolerant that is very disease resistant
and perfect for beds, borders or as a flowering hedge.
A great rose for cutting too.
Grows 3-5 feet tall and 2 feet wide.
Best grown in full sun, in rich, fertile and well-drained soils

Winnipeg Parks Rose will grow to be about 3 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 3 feet.
This shrub should only be grown in full sunlight.
This rose is highly ornamental and will turn red in the fall. The fruits are showy red hips displayed from mid to late fall. I often deadhead the roses but will leave them from this point forward in order to benefit from the rosehips.
This bush has cherry red flowers, dark red-tipped foliage, red hips, is excellent for cutting and is
a tough, long-blooming, fragrant rose.

Morden Fireglow Rose #2
Unique, double, fragrant, fiery orange blooms with yellow underside. Continuous bloomer. Vigorous, low-growing shrub with dark green glossy foliage. Good resistance to powdery mildew. Prefers a moist, well-drained soil. Drought tolerant once established.

Just Like Heaven Bearded German Iris
Consisting of only 6 petals.
3 upright standard petals and 3 downward fall petals.
Height 36".
Massive blooms, and a lot of them,
with delicate petal shape and color combination.
Chalky white standards have just a hint of blue
at their base and sit atop rounded soft sky-blue falls.

Birthday Roses in Massachusetts
Jenny ordered 3 bare root roses (from Jackson and Perkins) to celebrate the Twin A/Twin B birthday this year. She says they are very pokey, danger ankle biters. Colours are variations of coral, orange, pink and yellow. Names are Peace Hybrid Tea Rose, Catalina Grandilfora Rose and Cabna Hybrid Tea Rose.

Ranunculus
Ranunculus blooming in Boylston. The first place we saw and fell in love with Ranunculus was on a field trip to the Carlsbad Flower Fields in California in about 2010. https://www.theflowerfields.com/
Ranunculus are cool season flowers that grow best in spring-like temperatures of about 55°F. In warm climates (zones 8-10), the corms are planted in the fall so they will bloom in late winter and early spring. Plant ranunculus in beds and borders, cutting gardens and containers. They are good companions for other spring flowers such as primroses, pansies and larkspur.
In climates where ranunculus are not winter hardy (zones 4-7), the corms are usually planted in late winter or very early spring for flowers in early summer. In these areas, home gardeners often grow ranunculus in containers rather than in the garden. Containers make it easier to control light and soil moisture.

Passion Moon Lily
