Birch Tree

This weeping birch tree is growing in the front yard of a Mount Royal Calgary home.

The weeping birch is an enormous and magnificent tree from northern Europe, growing upwards of 80 feet.
The lifespan of a European weeping birch varies and is put at somewhere between 30 to 50 years.
Estimates are that this tree could be as old as the house which was built in 1952 so this tree could be up to 70 years old.

Magnolia Tree

Moving to a new home in late fall means discovering all kinds
of surprises in early spring.  Plant identification can be both
challenging and fun.
This bud could very well be the bud of a magnolia tree.
Lots of research and observation may identify this tree more precisely.
The blossoms are about 3 inches wide and the tree is about 15 to 20 feet high.
So far thinking Sweetbay Magnolia or Star Magnolia.

Lone Star Linden Tree

June 16, 2021

Lone Star Linden Tree planted in the backyard at Norglenwold.
Cold Hardiness to -40
Average Size 30 feet x 12 feet
Flowering time Early Summer
Selected for its slightly smaller form and intense fall foliage colour of clear yellow.  A popular tree with a desired size and shape suitable for most smaller landscapes.

Lone Star is a very hardy little leaf linden with green heart shaped leaves. It has a neat and dense pyramidal crown. Moderate grower with yellow fall colour. Small yellow-greenish, inconspicuous flowers appear in summer and have a rich heavy scent, which make them much visited by bees.

September Ruby Apple Tree

A new September Ruby Apple Tree planted on May 17, 2020 in the sunny backyard in Norglenwold to celebrate Grandmaman and Papa's 46th anniversary on May 18, 2020.  Tristan dug the hole and planted the tree.  Ethan sawed down the no longer growing Mountain Ash tree with his DIY bucksaw and Reegan watered the tree.  Kevin helped Ethan saw up the old tree and Tristan and Grandpa hauled the branches to the neighborhood bin.
