Garden Paths at Kuusamo

Garden Path August 2025
Ethan and Mom spent time this summer 2025 redoing
the garden on the south side of the cabin.
Some of the plants include daylilies, Tristan's pine tree, small evergreens, irises, creeping Jenny, Maltese Cross, delphiniens and a rhubarb.  Tristan's driftwood art sculpture and Ethan's Frog El Bow grace the garden.  The stepping stone from Amy and Kevin's first house also has a place in the garden.

Garden Path August 2025
Kevin placed and reconstructed this path from the wooden pathway at the Lakehouse last summer and this summer 2025 Ethan and Amy steadied the path, put in a few finishing touches, prepared the soil, rearranged some plants and planted others.
On the west side of the path is a natural forest and on the east side
of the path is the developing garden.

Forest Path 2025
This is the other garden path, more of a forest path and the original path that Reegan and
Kevin built.  It is on the east side of the driveway closer to the community road.

Siberian Iris

June 2021

Siberian Iris are tall, graceful plants with slim, grassy foliage. They are suitable for borders, wild gardens, and along edges of ponds, but not for growing in water. Originating in an area spanning from northern Italy across Turkey and into southeastern Russia, the Siberian Iris does not actually grow in Siberia.

Flower Containers

Opening up the cabin at Kuusamo each summer means power washing
the decks, brushing off the spring and winter from the furniture,
windows, stairs and walls, falling deadwood from the border trees and revitalizing the flower beds.  Final touches adding bright flowers to the decks.

Daffodils

Daffodils blooming at the cabin in Kuusamo on Sylvan Lake.
Daffodils are deer resistant. The flower is toxic to deer.
Plant daffodil bulbs in the fall, about 2 to 4 weeks before the ground freezes.
Plant bulbs 1 1/2 to 5 times their depth.

Hydrangea

Thanks Barbara for this lovely hydrangea.  First planted at a lake home on Sylvan Lake it was moved to  a flower bed with a north-east exposure in Norglenwold.   Not sure yet what kind of Hydrangea it is.  Another move at the end of August 2017 to a flower bed at the cabin on Sylvan Lake.
